Federal Bureau of Investigation Expands DC Shooting Inquiry

This Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation searched several properties as it expanded its probe into a shooting in the nation's capital that happened on Wednesday, leaving one guardsman killed and another in critical condition.

Alleged Shooter's Background and Residence Searched

The search covered a home in the state of Washington connected to the alleged gunman, Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who authorities stated was a member of a Central Intelligence Agency-funded force in Afghanistan before arriving in the United States in 2021 under a relocation scheme.

FBI agents seized numerous tech equipment from the property, such as mobile phones, laptops, and Apple devices, and interviewed his relatives, the Bureau's chief Patel stated during a media update.

National Guard Soldier Sarah Beckstrom Passes Away After Attack

Subsequently on Thursday, the President declared that Sarah Beckstrom, one of the National Guard soldiers shot in the capital, had passed away.

She, 20, was one of two members of the guard attacked; the other member, Wolfe, twenty-four, is still fighting for his life, per the commander-in-chief.

DC Suspect Had CIA Ties, Authorities State

The alleged gunman was part of agency-funded armed groups during the United States military engagement in Afghanistan, the CIA has confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Lakanwal, twenty-nine, entered the United States in 2021 under an Operation Allies Welcome that gave certain Afghan nationals who had worked for the American government legal entry to the United States.
