The Bianconeri Snatch Dramatic Draw Following Goal-Filled Second Half Showdown Against Dortmund
Englishman Lloyd Kelly scored a leveler in the sixth minute of injury time to rescue a draw for Juventus after a thrilling goal-laden second period in Turin against Borussia.
The Defender’s Comeback Following Spot-Kick Error
Defender Kelly – signed from Newcastle in the summer – had given away a spot-kick to allow the visitors to make it 4-2, but he responded Vlahovic's 94th-minute equaliser with a headed goal a delivery from the Serbia striker two minutes.
Slow Start Leads to Scoring Frenzy
Both teams created little of note during the first 45 minutes while they neutralized one another in the middle.
Initial 45 minutes would not have enthused many spectators, but those who persisted were treated to an explosion of real excitement after halftime – as Juventus fought back three times, with eight goals coming after the 51st minute.
It is just the second-ever Champions League game in which eight scores have been scored in one half, following the second half of Bayern Munich's 9-2 victory against Dinamo Zagreb last season.
Rollercoaster Second Half
Adeyemi gave Dortmund the opener when he neatly maneuvered possession on the edge of the box and guided it into the far corner.
The German side stepped up with their finishing, but, little over 10 minutes later, a piece of Juventus magic by Yildiz ended with the young star curling a wonderful effort top bins from distance.
Less than 120 seconds later and Dortmund were back ahead, with Felix Nmecha producing another sublime shot when he curled a one-time strike into the top corner.
But the drama continued with further twists around the corner, and Vlahovic coolly finishing in a breakaway less than later to level again.
Late Drama
After surrendering the lead on two occasions, Dortmund retook the lead again as Couto, sprinting into the penalty area, fired a low drive inside of the near post, narrowly past the dive of Michele di Gregorio.
Bensebaini doubled Dortmund's lead from the penalty spot when former England Under-21 international Kelly touched the ball inside the area.
However Vlahovic fired a last-gasp shot off the woodwork before setting up former Bristol City and Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly to secure a late draw.
